Writing happy birthday poems for your boyfriend is a very special way to let him know how much you love him on his birthday. The hardest part is deciding what you should write about – how will you know that the poem is just right or perfect? What can you write to make sure that he will love it?

Acrostic Poems

Acrostic poems are great and usually some of the easiest poetry to write on your own. All you need is to pick a word or phrase and spell it out. For example, say you want to write a poem with the phrase “Happy Birthday” – you could use the poem below:

How much I love you
Always thinking of you
Perfect in every way
Perfect things you say
You are my best friend

Birthdays are special
It is the anniversary of the day you were born
Reminding us of the day you came into the world
To be thankful you are here
How amazing it all is

Poem About Memories

A poem about memories that are special between the two of you is another great thing to write about in your poem. Maybe it’s when you first met, or something special you did together. Here’s an example:

You took my hand
and wrapped your arms
around me
making me smile
as we danced.

Date Poems: You could also write a special poem that is centered around the actual date of your boyfriend’s birthday.

September 15th

The leaves were starting to fall
and the kids were back in school
when it was decided it was time for you to be born

and you came to the world today
so that everyday
I could have someone I love
and who loves me too.

Write a Personal Joke Poem: A personal joke is a poem between the two of you that nobody else in the world would ever understand.

Here’s an example of one:

A scary platypus and a squirrel
were together on a cable line
when one asked the other, do you have the time?

Why yes, it’s time for your birthday.
And so they ran down together
and found a big jar of pickles
and knew it was the perfect gift of love.

(Does this poem make no sense? Of course it doesn’t – you’re not “in” on the personal jokes between two people concerning a platypus, a squirrel, or a jar of pickles.)

Poems in a Gift: Another neat and creative thing you can do is to write a poem about the gift you are giving him to make it a surprise or you can choose random things and attach a poem to it.

For example, if I was giving someone a watch:

The hands here
ticking away time
remind me
to be thankful
of the time we have together
and your hands
holding mine
